More search and rescue training

The weather here in CA is just wonderful right now.  We are at least 10 degrees cooler than normal.
That makes me HAPPY!  This morning at 7:30 we had to be down at the Sheriffs arena for some desensitizing training for the horses.  I went along just to help and snap a few photos.  Hubby's horse did a
great job.  The flairs were the only thing that really concerned her, but she had never seen them before.

The garbage bag full of soda cans was no big woop to her.

And carrying the flag like she was a drill team pony.

You just gotta love a good horse!
Go Tillie!

Boring...

Sometimes life is chicken soup, and then other times it's chicken feathers.  Yah, I know, or poop.  Things here are just boring lately.  Now that I have put it in print, I'm sure it will change.  The most interesting thing here today is the frog on the hippo.
Cute!

I Love Irrigation!

Tillie is a water hound.
Pond, sprinkler, creek, whatever.  This application however, keeps her
cool, scratches her belly and cleans her teeth all at the same time.

Hot Hot Hot and Did I Mention HOT!

Whew! It's been Hot here!  At least 100 degrees or above.  Today is supposed to
be cooler, in the 90's.  Yippee...
We do all we can do to keep the animals cool, aka irrigation water.
Rainbird sprinklers are high on the list for all our horses.  Then there is the list of swimmers,
Annie, Tillie and Miss Kitty that take to the pond.  Dogs are included in the swimmer
list as well.  Even Penny Pinscher loves the water.  Only ankle deep.

Just for fun, I did the personality quiz at http://www.horsepersonality.com/index.html
Scroll to the bottom and click on "take quiz".

I used Annie for the quiz, and she is a "Steady Eddie".
No shock there. She is my go to girl.  Always ready to work
with little attitude  involved.
Now just for fun, I think I will try it again and use the GJA as the subject...

Back to Normal

Thank goodness the party of the year is all over!
While I had a blast, it's good to get back to normal,
whatever that is.
My second husband, Max the horse shoer, was here yesterday.
That takes ALL day.
We finished at 10:00 p.m.
Then hubby had to get up at 4:00 a.m. to get to work for a training.
Needless to say, we were whipped.
Soooo, while I was having my coffee trying to wake up, I hear a huge fight.
What the heck!
The big dogs have cornered a HUGE coon by the pond.
Thank goodness that they listened to the 43rd. loud whistle to get off it.
It was a big male at least 40 pounds.
Right now he is up in the weeping willow just waiting for evening
to saunter off.
Never a dull day.
Now, my lawnmower and I have a serious date.

The Day Before!

Tomorrow is the big day!
Lil Mama and TLC arrived with Mimi to check the pool
and slide.
The good news is that both pool and slide passed with flying
colors.  TLC made sure Penny Pinscher was in top form too.

Slide was working pretty good too

After all the inspections were done there was time to just relax and play.

Maybe I am a little bit partial, but isn't he just the cutest kid ever!

By the way, for you that know Vaquerogirl, it was her birthday today!!!

Happy Birthday!

Countdown To Slip N Slide!

So, it's getting closer and closer to the big Slip N Slide party!
The boys just couldn't wait any longer to start setting up the slide

Hay bales go around the catch pond first.

Then there is a foam mat put down, followed by the heavy duty
plastic sheeting.  This however is just the test run for the
newly designed catch pond.

Launch ramp is inflated and then they are ready to try the new sliding mats.

Good thing that they did a pre slide check 'cause the new mats
didn't work!   PANIC!
I called our pool guy and he was able to find us something
very close to the mats we have used in the past that were
discontinued.  WHEW!

Crisis averted, and all is well in the man kingdom again.

I will pick the mats up tomorrow on my last big shopping
day before the party.
They boys will set up the slide for real on Friday.

Lil Mama, TLC and Vaquerogirl will be up Friday to help with
all the setting up, slide testing, and making sure the pool is just
right.  It's a tough job, but we strive for perfection.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Whew!  We have been very busy here.  We went to Truckee, Ca. for a Search and Rescue training camp for 4 days.

My wonderful, gonna save someones lost butt, hubby is a member of the Sheriff's Posse.  I am not a member, but they allow guests for this event. The girls have asked if I wanted to belong to the Women's Posse, but, knowing full well that I hate the cold, heat, wind and rain, I didn't think it was for me so I politely declined.  I did however, volunteer to help with the sensory course by being a person in a chair.  Tough huh..
It was beautiful scenery and the weather couldn't have been better.
There was still snow in spots on the trail and the hills were full of BEARS.
I went out on a ride the first day there with the head of the ladies posse to plant some items for the
riders to locate in their mock search.  They had a couple different scenarios.  One was a lost hiker, and
another involved an injured person.
Hubby was on the search looking for the injured man.  Victim had a broken leg and so when he
was found, he had to be loaded up on one of the horses to be packed out.
Henry was playing the part of injured guy and is a BIG guy!
Hubby's horse Tillie was picked to be the packer.
The team had to LIFT Henry up on to Tillie.  WHEW!  Not easy..
Tillie was a trooper.
They didn't have to bring him back, but did have to practice unloading him too.
Then back to camp to de-brief.
Oh, and have a beer with the dog

Now, we are if full party mode getting ready for the

2010 Slip N Slide Party!!!!

Stay tuned, it's the best party of the season!!
